Romania Says ‘No’ to Resumption of International Adoptions

“Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi told Pro TV that the government’s stance not to allow resumption of international adoptions remains firm, although there still is “lobbying from several European states and our American friends.”

“We have stopped international adoptions and this was a good thing. There were discussions about already open cases, which should have been finalized, but I didn’t follow the matter closely… Of course. Even now we face lobbying from several European states and our American friends, but the government’s stance is firm: we will not resume international adoptions,” Baconschi said, while discussing uncompleted inter-country adoption cases mentioned by WikiLeaks cables.”
