FacePalm Friday
Facepalm2

This is where your hosts will list their top picks for this week’s FacePalm moment—something they learned or read about this week that caused the FacePalm to happen (you know, the expression of embarrassment, frustration, disbelief, shock, disgust or mixed humor as depicted in our Rally FacePalm smiley).

We invite you to add your FacePalm of the week to our comments. Go ahead and add a link, tell a personal story, or share something that triggered the FacePalm on the subject of child welfare or adoption.

Your Host’s Selections:

Celebrities Twisting the Facts

In Pitt Fears Daughter Would Have Died Without Adoption, “Brad Pitt is convinced his eldest daughter with Angelina Jolie would certainly have died if she had not been adopted from Africa by the Hollywood couple.

The actor and his partner are parents to six children – three biological kids and three who were adopted from various countries around the world. The couple adopted Zahara, now six, from an orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2005 when she was just six months old, and Pitt is convinced the youngster would not have survived if they had not taken her in.

He tells Parade magazine, “I have seen children suffer far beyond what we experience in America – like our oldest daughter. I know she would not be alive (if she had not been adopted). I know what care was available to her,  and it was nil. I cannot imagine life without her.”

I guess that he forgot that her birthmother from Awassa-the region that is being highly scrutinized right now (and who supposedly died of AIDS according to WHFC agency) is really alive . Maybe family preservation and some counseling would have helped? It was never allowed as an option.

Adopting Child as Companion for Special Needs Child

From an article   that we cited in the Ecuador/Joshua Tree Adoptions COA Action Alert :

(1) Calls the Hague hold “minor”
(2) On adopting a child with DS through Reece’s Rainbow: “”The couple has a daughter, Addie, who also has Down Syndrome. Erin said they wanted a companion”
(3)Potential adoptee is 9 months older than the biological child
(4) “There is no reason this little girl (sister) can’t be here and be loved,” Erin said.”
(5) From their blog    “According to our agency, a minor complaint was filed in 201 [sic] that caused the accreditation agency to look closed at all policies, procedures, and programs that Joshua Tree offers. Joshua Tree got the necessary documents to them and the complaint was resolved. However, since it cause the accreditation people to look very closely at all of Joshua Tree’s policies and procedures, they have been asked to make some very specific changes to these policies and procedures, and then submit that to the accreditation agency…so until these new policies and procedures are approved and in place….everything is on hold….sigh….”
(6) From the blog “We are USCIS approved and are to be getting our “official referral” of Sister on Sept. 15th. ”
(7) From the blog “”Flapjack Fundraisers”
