Steep Decline in Intercountry Adoption

This is an easy-to-read summary of many issues that have plagued international adoptions over the past decade. We recommend reading it in its entirety

Inter-country Adoption: Steep Declines in International Adoptions by U.S. Parents Reflect Mixed Record
[RH Reality Check 11/18/11 by Karen Smith Rotabi]

We want to emphasize one of her points:”Sadly there are three mothers in Guatemala who have taken to hunger protests for their individual daughters return from the U.S. One of those three women now has a Guatemalan court order for her daughter’s repatriation as a victim of abduction. The U.S. family in question, living in Missouri, has thus far ignored the court order with the exception of making a nationally-televised statement that they do not believe such a return to be in the best interests of their daughter.”

The Missouri child is Anyeli Rodriguez. There are two others. You can read about the 2009 hunger strike of the victim-mothers [we don’t use the term birthmother because that is insulting to the victims of the kidnapping] at Baby Love Child: “This is the situation for children; Angiely, Arlen Escarleth and Heidi Sarai, now under the identity of “Karen Lopez Garcia Abigail (Abigail Monahan Karen Vanhorn), Cindy Garcia (Cindy Thomas Colwell) and Kimberly Jimenez Azucena (Azucena Kimberly Ocheltree ) in 2006 were torn from the arms of their mothers, who since then have remained a constant struggle to determine the whereabouts of their minor daughters, as well as research that leads to identify those responsible so that they face justice for the crime of human trafficking among others” Note the many names that these girls have had on their falsified paperwork.
