Adoption Story "Mugs Shots on the Mantel"
Roselle Park Veteran’s Memorial Library presents: Carol Barbieri “Mug Shots on the Mantel” on Thursday, January 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Roselle Park Veteran’s Memorial Library.
New York Times Published Writer, singer/songwriter and adoption reform advocate Carol Barbieri will be telling her amazing adoption reunion story. Prompted by her son’s diagnosis with a life-threatening heart condition, Barbieri began a frantic search for her birth family. Learning that she was “abandoned” as an infant, separated from her twin sister, and that she was living in the same town as her sister are only some of the secrets Carol uncovered through her search. Her birthmother’s shocking suicide, the family’s criminal past, a psychic’s surprising prediction, and a secret love story are all part of Barbieri’s unbelievable adoption reunion tale. A musical performance of her adoption song, “Your Secret’s Safe With Me” follows Carol’s lecture.

REFORM Puzzle Pieces
It is always educational to hear adoptees tell their story. Adoptive parents also need to be educated about the importance of supporting movements for adoptees to obtain their original birth certificates and medical records.
In our topic-based puzzle, whatever is amiss in the postplacement period falls into this category. Lack of access to original birth certificates and medical records for adoptees in the majority of the US is something that needs reform.
