Andhra Pradesh is Top Child Trafficking Area in India

Andhra Pradesh is the fourth largest and fifth-most populous state of the twenty-eight states in India. It is situated on the southeastern coast of India. Hyderabad is its capital city.

“Children continue to be trafficked for different purposes throughout the country and Andhra Pradesh tops in cases of child trafficking.

The stringent laws to check child trafficking are hardly implemented, said K.Nimmaiah, convenor, Campaign Against Child Trafficking (CACT), Andhra Pradesh Chapter.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989, and many countries, including India, had ratified it.

Little progress

However, there was not much progress in the past 20 years in dealing with the issue in India, he added.
A report titled ‘20 years of CRC – A balance sheet’ was released on the occasion.
The report was a collective work of different non-governmental organisations, including CACT, added Mr. Nimmaiah. “
