From Fairfax, Virginia, a cold case of a missing illegal immigrant who was placed in foster care as a 12-year-old child in Virginia, Yuan Xia Wang, has renewed interest. She has been missing since 1998. A new media article has been published.
Yuan was smuggled into the US by a Thai man named Chaichana Klaharn. She arrived in Washington DC after traveling from Bangkok through Paris. She was placed into Virginia foster care. She disappeared after 6 weeks. Charley Project says that she first stayed at the foster home with a Chinese-speaking babysitter but after 3 weeks, she was enrolled into a public school. She would take the bus with her foster siblings to school. Washington Examiner says “Wang was last seen leaving a school bus at Lincolnia Road and Deming Avenue on Oct. 21, 1998, about 3 p.m. She was scheduled to take a taxi to a doctor’s appointment at 3:30 p.m., but never caught the cab, never showed up at the doctor’s office and never returned to her foster home.”
Charley Project indicates that she may have been as old as 15 when placed in foster care. There was a suspicion in 2008 that she may have been in the Kansas City area.
Anyone with any information on the case is asked to call Fairfax County police at 703-691-2391.
