Welsh Adoptee Seeks Public’s Help to Find Birthmother
“Elizabeth Bevan was just eight months old when she last saw her biological mother.
Then named Leea Jane Comins, she was given up for adoption as a baby – and lived for years as the daughter of adoptive parents John and Pat Henson
Elizabeth, from Bridgend, decided never get in contact with her real mum and dad for fear of offending her adopted parents, who brought her up until she was 12.
But sadly, both John and Pat died just before she reached her teens, with John suffering a major heart attack and Pat losing her battle with breast cancer.
She then moved in with her adopted auntie, Sheila Deenik, and remained with her until she moved out at the age of 16 to live with her husband, Chris Bevan.
Four years ago, Sheila also passed away, leaving Elizabeth without any older relatives.
So after decades wondering who her birth parents are and where they lived, Elizabeth finally decided to begin her search.
She said: “I have always known I was adopted, but it’s only recently I have decided to look as I’m not getting any younger.
“It’s a bit scary. I know nothing about my birth parents and I still don’t know why I was adopted.
“I have thought about them ever since my auntie passed away.”
Elizabeth went onto website Genes Reunited to see if she could find birth certificates and any material relating to her family’s history.
And to her amazement, after husband Chris typed her birth name into the search engine, she found out a woman called Sian Jones, whose surname was formerly Edwards, had tried to get in contact with her in 2007.
The message, from January 19, 2007, read: “S Jones trying to find Leea Jones Comins, born June 25, 1975, in South Wales, and was adopted from Bridgend, South Wales.
“Any info please get in touch.”
Elizabeth believes the woman, who lives in the Pontypridd area, could be her mother.
But to date, she has received no further messages from Sian, who she is desperate to contact.
“Anything could have happened to her since 2007,” said Elizabeth.
“I have sent her a message back on the site, but as yet it hasn’t been opened.
“I know that both of my parents have links with the Pontypridd area, so I am urging people to help me.”
Elizabeth, who now has three children of her own, was adopted through Bridgend County Courts and was born on June 25, 1975.
She believes potential mother, Sian C Edwards, was born in 1953 and married William L Comins in 1973, a man who was also born in 1953.
If you have any information about these two names, please email Chris Bevan direct at chrisbevan_uk@yahoo.co.uk”
