Kudos: The Need to Hear Positive Adoption Stories

From time to time, REFORM Talk will offer our kudos to particularly insightful blog posts.

This post from The Adopted Ones hits the nail on the head about the inferiority that many PAPs and APs seem to have with anything negative touching the topic of adoption.

  1. There has been a commenter showing up at China Adoption Talk lately protesting that the blog author never posts anything GOOD about adoption. Sigh. Second verse, same as the first: adoption is complicated. It is so, so complicated. All of the adopted individuals I have known IRL have actually been very pro-adoption and adoption-positive…and they’ve also acknowledged that growing up adopted was tough, not knowing their biological relatives was tough, and, in cases of IA and inter-racial adoption, being of a different ethnic, racial, and cultural background than their families was really, really, really tough. It’s possible to be pro-adoption and pro-adoption reform. It’s possible to be anti-adoption and love your adoptive family. We have to acknowledge that adoption is an incredibly complex experience, and that when it comes to adoption ethics, nothing is black and white.
