How Could You? Hall of Shame-Jarrod Condit UPDATED
This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.
From Canadian County, Oklahoma, former teacher and DHS worker and adoptive parent Jarrod Condit will be on trial February 4, 2013 for allegations of sexually abusing two of his three adopted sons, aged 10 and 11, in 2010 .
“The suspect worked as a school teacher both before and after his short stint with OKDHS where he first met the alleged victims in this case.
Jarod Condit served as a child welfare specialist for five months. During that time, the job gave him access to children in the foster system.
Investigators say when Condit could not find homes for three of the children in the system he quit DHS and went through the adoption process himself.
“DHS requires all foster and adoptive parents to pass criminal background checks, home studies, and undergo extensive training before children are placed in a home,” said OKDHS spokesperson Sheree Powell.”
“Documents reveal the children told investigators that Condit “threatened to kill the boys” if they told anyone.
The state agency responded by saying “Sadly, all of these safeguards are not fool-proof predictors of potential criminal behavior. Nothing is more sickening than an adult who intentionally deceives the system to do harm to a child.”
According to a portion of his resignation letter provided to News9 by DHS, Condit left OKDHS because “he wanted to return to teaching.”
We’re told he was working for the Oklahoma City Public School District at the time of his arrest. The OKCPS District did not respond to our request for comment before this story aired.
We were unable to reach the defense attorney for comment on the case. Prosecutors declined to comment at this time.”

REFORM Puzzle Piece
Update:“A former Department of Human Services caseworker and teacher last week was found guilty by a Canadian County jury of sexual abuse of two children he had been assigned to help.”
Jarrod Nolen Condit, 30, could serve up to 36 years in prison and pay a $10,000 fine if Canadian County District Court Judge Gary Miller follows the jury’s sentence recommendations. The Yukon man was found guilty after a three-day trial, Assistant District Attorney Paul Hesse said.
Yukon police conducted the investigation.
Condit was introduced to the two children, as well as one of their siblings, when he was assigned by DHS as their caseworker, Hesse said. Condit also worked as a schoolteacher in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas and was involved in foster parenting, Hesse said.
“If the jury’s recommendation is followed, Condit will not be eligible for release from prison for 30 years and will then have to register as a sex offender,” Hesse said.
Miller is scheduled to sentence Condit March 12.”
