How Could You? Hall of Shame-Cambodia-Mon Savuth

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Siem Reap, Cambodia, director of the Angkor Orphan Organization , Mon Savuth, was arrested for sexually abusing “two girls, 11 and 12, over a four-month period, police said.

The suspect, Mon Savuth, was detained for the alleged abuse at the Angkor Orphanage & Education Organization, but the center — which cares for 36 children — remains open, said Duong Thavery, the head of the anti-trafficking police unit in Siem Reap.”

Cambodia shuts foreign-run orphanage accused of beating children, human trafficking

This orphanage was established in 2010. The website says “Angkor Orphan Organization (AOO), a non-governmental organization, was established on May 5th, 2010 by Seung Pisey at the request of the local community to provide a healthy, safe and stable environment for identified local orphaned children. Our first accomplishment was the opening of a FREE English Language Education School for these orphans and other impoverished children in the local farming community. This school is run entirely by volunteer staff and teachers. With further funding, we hope to begin constructing necessary facilities for the initial housing of 15 local orphaned children in dire need of a healthy, safe and stable environment. AOO is working toward a combined Cambodian goal of achieving a developed and educated nation and populace. Through a healthy environment and education, we believe Cambodia can join the league of developed nations.”
