Ukrainian Children’s Rights Commissioner in US This Week UPDATED

“The Ukrainian president’s commissioner for children’s rights, Yuriy Pavlenko, will visit the United States on April 1-4 to examine the state of compliance with the rights of Ukrainian children adopted by U.S. citizens, the presidential press service has reported.

Pavlenko will check the activity of consular institutions of the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States in terms of controlling the observance of the rights of children adopted by citizens of this country.

In addition, the children’s rights commissioner is planning to meet with representatives of government agencies responsible for the protection of children’s rights and cooperation in inter-country adoption, in particular, with the management of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Secretary of State’s Special Advisor for Children’s Issues, as well as agencies dealing with child protection in a number of states.

Pavlenko will visit U.S. families who adopted children from Ukraine.

The presidential commissioner for children’s rights will also speak at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace on the protection of children’s rights in Ukraine and hold meetings with representatives of non-governmental organizations and the Ukrainian diaspora in the United States.”
