Adoption Trafficking Awareness Event
Washington is getting educated this weekend. From The Olympian
‘Adoption Trafficking Awareness Event
Saturday, Jul 20 1:00p to 3:00p
Lacey Timberland Library Lacey, WA
Child trafficking is an on-going problem with international adoption. Foreign children are too often wrongly labeled “orphans” and then trafficked under the guise of adoption. Adoptees and activists will raise awareness about international adoption’s trafficking problem at this educational Event.
Speakers:
Janine and Jenette Vance
Twins adopted from Korea
Peter Dodds
German orphan adopted to the United States
Georgiana Macavei
Adopted from Romania
Roman Akafate
Orphan from Ethiopia”
REFORM Puzzle Pieces
Interesting that all the speakers are adoptees.
I think this is wonderful – too often adoptees are the least-heard and often ignored voices in the discussion. I’m interested to see what becomes of this event.
Get a eyeful of IL DCFS’s new training for “effective black parenting”
http://www.state.il.us/DCFS/docs/AAC_minutes_4-5-13.pdf
It honest to goodness says: “The Black proverbs apply to all children. Some of the information in the handbook might be found offensive to non-Black participants. We don’t want participants to be distracted by that, so we are going to strategize about how to prepare the trainers to deliver this information.”
I have no idea who designed this training but it’s poor and ineffective. And this committee is worried about offending the white folks? Gimme a break!
another primo quote:
“Sometimes kids need approval to express their feelings. They talk about chit chat time, like when in the car. During this time parents should not correct grammar or argue with their ideas; but rather allow them to express and acknowledge their feelings.”
Oh no you didn’t on even discussing Ebonics.
