Update:”A 58-year-old Fayette County man was sentenced Wednesday to up to 75 years for sexual crimes committed against his 15-year-old niece and foster child.
Gaylord Keith Lane, of Victor, was convicted in August of three counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian.
According to Fayette County Assistant Prosecutor Roger Lambert, the victim said Lane’s actions “have ruined her life.”
Lambert said Lane forced the 15-year-old to perform sex acts on at least three occasions. All the sexual crimes took place at Lane’s Fayette County home.
Lane, the victim’s uncle, had been appointed as her guardian by the Department of Health and Human Resources foster care program.
“It was his job to protect (her),” Lambert said. “He abused that position and he used that position to abuse her and molest her.”
Before the sexual crimes, Lambert said the victim even called the man her father, and he had called her his daughter.
“I hope somehow, some day, she’s able to come to some kind of peace,” Lambert said. “There’s no doubt what this defendant did will affect her for the entirety of her life.”
Lambert asked Judge Paul M. Blake Jr. to deliver the most severe penalty possible. ”
