How Could You? Hall of Shame-Vennis McCall-death

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Chicago, Illinois, foster son “Vennis McCall, 34, was convicted in August of murdering his foster parents, Allen McCullough Jr., 46, and Danna McCullough, 43, and their son, Allen McCullough III, 19, according to court records.”

“A man convicted of killing his foster parents and their son after they had taken him in when he was released from prison in 2008 has been sentenced to life in prison plus 75 years, according to prosecutors and records.”

“On Thursday[October 17 2013], McCall began serving his sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections after Cook County Criminal Court Judge Rosemary Higgins imposed his sentence on Wednesday, according to prison and court records.

The McCulloughs had allowed McCall to live with them after he was released from prison in February 2008 following a conviction for a 1998 robbery and a 2001 conviction for trying to escape from custody at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building and battering an officer.

The three family members were killed April 3, 2008, after a dispute over money, food and house rules, with Allen and Danna McCullough shot in the head while their son was at work, and Allen McCullough III beaten with a hammer and shot when he returned home, prosecutors have said.

The next day, police were called to the family home in the 6100 block of South Hermitage Avenue after Allen McCullough III did not show up for work and friends and family members could not reach the McCulloughs by phone, and discovered the three shot. McCall evaded police for almost three weeks, but after frequent calls from neighbors when they saw him in the area, officers were able to arrest him.”
