How Could You? Hall of Shame-Sharon L. North

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Black River Falls, Wisconsin, 18-year-old foster Child Sharon L. North “is accused of sexually assaulting her younger foster sister when the girl reportedly would channel a male spirit.”

She “took advantage of the girl who was two years younger while they lived together in a foster home for a year and a half.

The girl, who said she believed in and could see spirits, stated the sexual contact would occur when she took on the persona of a male spirit called Ned, according to the criminal complaint filed in Jackson County Circuit Court. The contact progressed from fondling to oral sex and simulated male-female sex.

Both the girl and North say the other came up with the concept of Ned.

The girl, who no longer lives at the house, stated the sexual contact began in the summer of 2012, and North would regularly ask if Ned “was in,” according to the complaint. She said North would visit her nightly and sexual contact occurred five to six times a week.

The girl said North at times would get upset and tell her the devil was inside if she didn’t do what North wanted. She also said she attempted to tell her foster parent but was unable to do so in private.

North admitted to the sexual contact but stated the girl said spirits possess her and Ned was her main spirit, eventually convincing North to engage in the contact, according to the complaint. North described it as role-playing and said she herself at times would take on the persona of a spirit.

She also stated she knew the sexual contact was inappropriate, according to the complaint.

North is charged with sexual assault of a child under 16 and third- and fourth-degree sexual assault. She was released on a $10,000 signature bond but is placed on home detention. She has an adjourned initial court appearance scheduled for Monday.”
