From Fontana, California, foster parents Robert Ismael, 35, and Emily Ismael, 29, were arrested and are facing criminal charges “after a 3-year-old foster child in their care suffered second-degree burns to her entire body, authorities said Thursday.
Officers responded to Loma Linda Medical Center about 8 a.m. Monday in reference to a child abuse investigation by San Bernardino County Children and Family Services.
The child “had numerous aerosol burns to her entire body and back,” according to a statement issued Thursday by Fontana police. “The investigation revealed that the burns were not self-inflicted.”
According to detectives, both suspects admitted to the crime.
Robert Ismael is facing a child abuse charge; Emily Ismael faces a child endangerment charge, the Police Department said.
Both were booked at the West Valley Detention Center, where Robert Ismael was being held on $100,000 bail, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s inmate website.
Robert Ismael was due in Fontana Superior Court Friday morning, the inmate website stated.
Emily Ismael had bailed out of jail, according to police spokeswoman Martha Guzman-Hurtado.
The 3-year-old girl and two other foster children were removed from the Ismaeles’ home…and taken into custody by Child and Family Services, police said.”
