How Could You? Hall of Shame-Lisa Wolfe UPDATED

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Estill County, Kentucky, Adoptive parent Lisa Wolfe “has been charged with starving her adopted 6-year-old son until he had to be hospitalized for more than two weeks.

According to State Police, Lisa Wolfe was arrested after receiving information from a local medical center that the boy was badly malnourished.

They said he spent a total of 19 days in the hospital, but is now doing better.

Troopers added that two other children, a seven-year-old and a nine-year-old, were also living in Wolfe’s home.

All of the children have been placed with foster parents.

Wolfe was indicted by a grand jury of one charge of criminal abuse first-degree and two charges of criminal abuse third-degree following an investigation started by State Police back in January.

“Troopers say the boy’s 7 and a 9-year-old sisters were also living in the home on Wisemantown Road with Wolfe.

They have all now been placed in foster care.

“As far as I know I never saw anything wrong. Ever. And I’ve known them since they moved here,” said Earl Bishop, who has lived on Wolfe’s property for the last year.

He says he helped take care of the kids and the situation as a big misunderstanding. Earlier this year, he says the 6-year-old boy, who can’t speak and uses a wheelchair to get around, became sick and lost several pounds.

“He had lost like 4 pounds, so they said she was neglecting him,” Bishop said. “It’s just a matter of him being sick. I don’t think one bit she starved him or neglected any of them or anything in any way.”

Wolfe’s bond has been set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 property. She’s expected in court May 23.”

“What’s even more troubling is that the police say the boy had special needs; neighbors say he was seen in a wheelchair. They also say the girls also had disabilities.”

Update: A search on Kentucky Records finds that on October 10,2014 she has a “Motion hour” and on December 2,2014 she has a Status Hearing.

Update 2: “An Estill County woman entered an Alford plea Friday to criminal abuse charges filed against her last year for starving her three adopted children.

As part of her Alford plea, Lisa Wolfe pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree criminal abuse for her treatment of one of the children, a boy, and two counts of third-degree criminal abuse for treatment of two girls. In an Alford plea, a defendant maintains their innocence but acknowledges that there is sufficient evidence for a jury to convict.

Wolfe was arrested last year after taking her adopted son to the hospital in January. He was diagnosed with being malnourished, launching a police investigation. Investigators determined that the girls, who were 7 and 9 at the time, were the subjects of cruel confinement.
Neighbors said the boy had special needs and was seen in a wheelchair. They said the girls also had disabilities.

Wolfe initially was facing multiple counts of first-degree criminal abuse.

Under the plea deal, the first-degree criminal abuse charge brings a recommended sentence of five to 10 years in prison. Prosecutors recommended that Wolfe serve four years and the remaining time be probated. As part of her sentence Wolfe is also required to give up all parental rights of the children involved. The three children were placed with another foster family after her arrest.”
