Dutch Woman Seeks Adopted Daughter’s Biological Parents in China
“Erika, a 50-year-old Dutch woman recently came to Huainan City, in central China’s Anhui Province, in order to help her adopted daughter find her biological parents.
Erika arrived in Huainan on May 25 along with her sister. Erika has raised four children, one of whom was adopted from Huainan. In April 2004, Erika received a call from Huainan Children’s Welfare Home informing her that she could adopt a child there. Erika was glad to hear the information, because she had longed to adopt a child from China and had established contact with China’s welfare agency. Erika went to Huainan immediately and finished all the procedures for adoption. In Huainan Children’s Welfare Home, she saw her adopted child Huai Jiaduo for the first time.
“Now my child is 12 years old, and I think I should help her find her biological parents,” said Erika.
“I live a happy life in Holland. I want to find my biological parents,” Huai Jiaduo said.
Erika went to Huainan Children’s Welfare Home and asked its staff to check Huai’s file. Zhou Chengxiang, a staff member at the welfare home, checked Huai’s file and told Erika that Huai’s parents abandoned Huai in the railway station. Then the police found Huai and sent her to the welfare home.
Erika went to the police station hoping to find more information. However, the police failed to provide more information on Huai’s parents.
Although Erika can not find her child’s biological parents at present, she will keep on looking for them. She says that the child’s biological parents may be looking for their child too.””
