This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From South Wales,UK, “51 people – including two registered sex offenders – have been arrested across south Wales as part of a UK-wide operation against suspected paedophiles.

Several of those who were arrested had unsupervised access to children, including a foster carer and a scout leader.

A social service manager and a former police officer were also arrested.

The six-month long operation targeted people who were accessing indecent images of children on the internet. 30 were arrested by South Wales Police, 14 by Gwent Police and a further seven by Dyfed-Powys officers.

Assistant Chief Constable for Specialist Crime, Nikki Holland, said: “This has been a huge operation where we have targeted numerous offenders accessing child abuse images. The majority of these people may have thought they were operating under the radar but we were able to identify them and this sends a strong message to other offenders – you will be caught.

“Nationally we have seen an unprecedented increase in the number of reports of sexual abuse of children and our primary aim is to protect children who were victims of, or might be at risk of, sexual exploitation.

“Children are victimised not only when they are abused and an image is first taken. They are victimised repeatedly every time that image is viewed.

“We also know that people who start by accessing indecent images online can then go on to abuse children directly. So the operation is not only about catching people who have already offended – it is about influencing potential offenders before they cross that line.”

So far 12 of the 51 arrested have been charged with possession and distribution of indecent images of children. Charging decisions are still awaited for the others.

The operation has resulted in the protection of some 42 children – where joint investigations were conducted by police in conjunction with social care – and a further 16 safeguarded through referral to social services.

“Offenders need to know that the internet is not a safe anonymous space for accessing indecent images, that they leave a digital footprint, and that law enforcement will find it,” Assistant Chief Constable Holland added.

The arrests have come as part of a co-ordinated effort from the National Crime Agency, and involved 45 police forces across the UK. To date, 660 arrests have been made, safeguarding over 400 children. ”
