How Could You? Hall of Shame-Donald Holder UPDATED

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Middletown, Connecticut, Donald Holder, 32, ” is facing one count each of second-degree sexual assault and illegal sexual contact with a [foster child]victim younger than 16 – both felonies – as well as a pending third-degree assault charge on a separate case.”

“A violent convicted felon remains in custody on a $200,000 on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.”

“Middletown detectives interviewed the girl at Hartford Hospital after Hartford police discovered the assault had taken place in Middletown, police said.”

“The girl told police that Holder, whom she knew as “Derrick,” had picked her up in Hartford on the evening of Aug. 28. They drove for a while and then parked, drank something alcoholic and then smoked a joint as they drove around Hartford, police said.

She told detectives that Holder then drove to Middletown and parked by Middlesex Hospital so he could visit his girlfriend, a patient there. Hospital officials later confirmed that Holder had come in the evening of Aug. 28.

Holder then drove to a High Street, parked again and “asked her how many guys she had sex with,” police said.

“He then asked her if she wanted to have sex with him, and she said no,” police said.

She said Holder then took her to an apartment on Spring Street, where they had sex, police said.

“They then smoked marijuana a second time,” police said. Just after one a.m., “Holder called the victim’s foster mother and asked if she could get the victim. It was decided that he would drop her off at the Wendy’s (restaurant) near Brainard Avenue in Hartford. Holder then dropped off the victim” and the foster mother picked her up around 2 a.m.

When the girl told her foster mother she and Holder had had sex, the foster mother took her to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center before the girl was transferred to Hartford Hospital.

“Holder is a suspect in at least two ‘shots fired cases,’” police said. “He is extremely violent and mentally unstable. There is an ‘officer safety’ alert in our house computer system because he is considered so dangerous.”

According to court records, Holder has a lengthy history of convictions throughout the state including threatening, harassment, carrying a pistol without a permit and illegally carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Judge David Gold assigned Holder a public defender on Sept. 2 and reduced his bond to $200,000 from $250,000.

Holder will return to Middletown Superior Court on Oct. 14 for both cases.”

  1. The apparently-civil 1 am phone call to arrange the handoff at Wendy’s (and the fact there was no missing persons report filed) indicates that the foster mother either gave her approval to a 14-year-old spending the evening with a 32-year-old convicted felon OR she didn’t realize the girl was missing. Either way, it speaks of less-than-stellar supervision.

Still, she gets points for driving the girl immediately to the hospital after the rape was disclosed.
