Lawsuit: National Deaf Academy Behavioral Health System

“Several families are suing a central Florida treatment facility over claims their children were neglected and abused.

The alleged abuse happened at the National Deaf Academy Behavioral Health System in Mount Dora.

WFTV learned that the facility has been investigated nearly 100 times by the Department of Children and Families over the last decade.

Attorney Bruce Maxwell of the Terrell Hogan law firm said his clients endured everything from inadequate supervision to bizarre punishments, and even sometimes sex abuse.

His clients claim that the staff enabled the children to have access to porn on a regular basis and failed to ensure the children has proper food and hydration.

The facility issued a statement saying, “These unproven claims do not reflect the quality of care we have provided to hundreds of children and adults whose lives have been enhanced and improved by the caring treatment they received at NDA.”

DCF conducted 99 investigations from 2004-2014, but in most of the cases, investigators couldn’t find enough evidence to prove the allegations were true.”
