How Could You? Hall of Shame-Virginia infant-Child Death

From Norfolk, Virginia, ” police are investigating the death of a 1-month-old after the child was found unresponsive Thursday morning.

Officer Daniel Hudson with Norfolk police said a baby boy was found not breathing at an apartment near … just before 5:30 a.m.

Hudson said the child was a foster care child who had been brought to a foster family by Child Protective Services this past weekend. According to police, the child’s foster parents called 911 and told dispatchers the baby was not breathing. When officers arrived on scene they conducted CPR on the baby, but when paramedics arrived they pronounced the child dead.

Police said a man and woman were inside the home. They say the two are not married, but they are related. There were no other children inside the home.

Police say the death is undetermined, at this time, and they are waiting for the medical examiner to determine the cause of death. Norfolk dispatchers told WAVY.com the call originally came in as a suspicious death, but when investigators arrived on scene they classified the death as undetermined.

Raquel Cochran is a neighbor who said she knows the woman living at the home where the baby died only as Aunt Poochie.[?]

“The situation is sad,” Cochran said. “The baby wasn’t nothing but a month old. Pretty little baby, he was handsome. He was handsome, big eyes, curly hair.”

She said it’s devastating because she just saw the baby a couple of days ago.

“It was really shocking, it hurt me because I know she really loved that baby, you know? So, I can only imagine how she feels right now. What happened? I have no clue.” she said.

Another neighbor, Betty Person, said, “my heart is with the family, and I understand she is a family member, the one that had the foster care, so that’s kind of difficult.””

“The Medical Examiner’s Office has said there were no signs of foul play in the death of a 1-month-old after the child was found unresponsive Thursday morning.

On Friday morning, Norfolk Police Officer Daniel Hudson said the Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the baby’s death is not a homicide.

The baby boy was found not breathing at an apartment near Arkansas Avenue and East Princess Anne Road, just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
