Former Foster Child Scott David Todd Busted For Child Pornography

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Saskatoon, Canada,Former Foster Child Scott David Todd,23, “pleaded guilty Monday in Saskatoon provincial court to possessing child pornography and received the mandatory minimum sentence of six months in jail.

His curiosity apparently got the better of him when he went back to live with a former foster parent in Saskatoon and began using a laptop computer in the house, court heard. His former foster father didn’t know how to use the computer, but allowed Todd to use it.

Todd then proceeded to download child pornography files.

When another former foster child came to visit last Christmas, that man started setting up the computer for his foster dad and discovered the files Todd had downloaded. He and the foster dad immediately went to police and reported Todd, turning over the laptop, Crown prosecutor Lana Morelli said in court.

Police obtained a search warrant for the computer and found 37 child pornography files on it. Todd was arrested and released, but breached his release conditions twice. He wasn’t supposed to have any contact with anyone under 16 years old, but was caught hanging out with a 15-year-old at the downtown bus mall in June.

Then on Sept. 30, police received a report from Lighthouse staff that Todd was at the McDonald’s on 39th Street and Idylwyld Drive and was suicidal. Police couldn’t find him until he returned to the Lighthouse at 1:15 a.m., well past his curfew.

Morelli and defence lawyer Patrick McDougall jointly recommended the six-month mandatory sentence on the child porn charge, plus one month for the breaches. Minus

credit for time spent on remand, that leaves Todd four months to serve, followed by three years of probation.

“I would just like to say I regret what I’ve done and that it was just curiosity,” Todd said when Judge Barry Morgan asked him what he’d like to say.

“That’s the whole problem with this, Mr. Todd,” Morgan responded.

“If people weren’t looking at this filth, there wouldn’t be a market for it. That’s what you did; you hurt these people even though you don’t know who they are.””
