International Adoptions By Irish Up in 2014

The statistics for children entered into the register by the Adoption Authority of Ireland reveals the origin of children who are now happily adopted into Irish families:

Thailand 6

USA 5

Mexico 5

Bulgaria 4

Vietnam 4

India 3

UK 2

China 1

Russia 4

The biggest number of declarations – where people have been passed as eligible to adopt – related to the USA (57). This was followed by Bulgaria (21), Vietnam (10), Thailand and India.

Meanwhile, the ongoing talks to secure a bilateral agreement on intercountry adoption between Ireland and the Russian Federation are continuing.

In April last year, all proposed adoption agreements were on hold while the Russian government considered proposals on dealing with adoption agreements in general.

Further correspondence was received from the Russian authorities in October and December 2014.”
