How Could You? Hall of Shame-Jeremiah Thompson UPDATED

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Edmond, Oklahoma, Foster father Jeremiah Thompson,”an Oklahoma City police officer ,has been charged with child abuse.”

“Investigators said he is accused of shaking and injuring a 7-month-old baby he had been fostering for a month.

Oklahoma City Police Officer Jeremiah Thompson and his wife became foster parents in October of 2014.

In November of 2014, Thompson called 911 from his Edmond home about one of his foster children having trouble breathing.

“This is very sad for everyone involved – the foster family, our agency, the biological family,” said OKDHS Spokesperson Sheree Powell. “This is a tragedy,” she added.

DHS placed a 7-month-old girl and her 2-year-old sister with the Thompsons.

On Nov. 18, Thompson called 911 while his wife was at work and said the infant was having trouble breathing.

He said the girl was throwing up a whole bunch and wasn’t really looking at him like she had a hundred yard stare.

Court documents said four minutes and 22 seconds into the 911 call, Thompson said, “I did drop her as well…from a height of 3 to 4 feet…onto padded carpet.”

Doctors said the baby’s subdural hematoma and extensive bilateral retinal bleeding could not have been caused by a single fall incident.

Doctors said the injuries were likely from a person shaking a baby.

“There were no red flags, no indications that anything like this could have happened,” Powell told News 9.

Powell said the Thompsons passed every background check and certification with flying colors.

“This particular foster parent did that, passed all of his background checks, home study was glowing on the family and also completed all the training,” Powell explained.

DHS removed both foster children from the home and will not place any other children there.

DHS said the baby is now safe, but she has had seizures and increased pressure in her skull from her brain injury.

According to court documents, doctors said the long term effects of her brain injury are unknown at this time.

Officer Thompson has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He has been with Oklahoma City police for two years and is currently on paid leave while the case is open.”

“An Oklahoma City police officer is headed to trial.

31-year-old Jeremiah Thompson is accused of abusing his 7-month-old foster child.

He had nothing to say outside the courtroom Wednesday after his preliminary hearing.

Among the witnesses, prosecutors called to testify before the judge, the pediatrician who worked on the victim at the hospital.

She testified the baby had so many bleeds in the back of her eyes, they were too numerous to count.

After about two hours of testimony, the judge bound over Jeremiah Thomas for trial.

He’s charged with child abuse after his 7-month-old foster baby suffered severe head trauma in November.

Thompson called 9-1-1 from his Edmond home.”

“An Oklahoma City police officer accused of causing a head injury to a infant girl in his care will go to trial.

Jeremiah Thompson, 31, faces one count of child abuse in Oklahoma County District Court.

Thompson called 911 in November and told emergency workers he had dropped a 7-month-old infant from chest height. After the fall, the baby was breathing shallowly, vomiting and had a “thousand yard stare” in her eyes, a social worker testified at the preliminary hearing Wednesday morning. The comments were made to her during an interview with Thompson and his wife after the incident.

A doctor who cared for the girl testified the symptoms the baby exhibited were not indicative of a standing height fall.

The doctor also testified the injuries — which were not life-threatening and never caused the baby to stop breathing — could not have been suffered accidentally.

Thompson, who was charged in January, has been on paid administrative leave since November 19. He is a two-year member of the police department.

The judge ordered Thompson to trial after the hearing. His next court date is June 24.”

Update:”A fired Oklahoma City police officer accused of abusing a 7-month-old foster child in his care was sentenced Monday to five years on probation.

Jeremiah Thompson, who denies he abused the infant girl, was asked by Oklahoma County District Judge Ray C. Elliott during the sentencing if he wanted to “come clean.”

“I don’t think you’re being completely honest with me. I think you need to come clean right now,” the judge said. “I believe I know what happened and I’m not sure you’re telling everything. … It just doesn’t all add up.”

The judge also said he thinks Thompson didn’t intend to hurt the child but believes Thompson is in denial about what happened.

Thompson, 33, of Edmond, chose not to respond to the judge. Thompson, though, read a brief statement earlier in the sentencing. He said he was proud when he had a family of six — he and his wife, their two young boys and two young foster girls.

“I felt I was doing what I was created for, being a loving father,” Thompson said. He also said he worked multiple jobs and sold his possessions to “fight this accusation.”
