How Could You? Hall of Shame-Filberto Valencia

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Stockton, California,  26-year-old Filberto Valencia “entered a group home for girls. Once inside, he barricaded himself and four females inside the bathroom. When police broke through the door, they say Valencia had his arm around the neck of a 10-year-old girl. He allegedly became combative with police and reached for an officer’s gun. Police used a baton and a Taser on Valencia.

Valencia died at the scene.

The family of the suspect lives in the neighborhood and say he’s a schizophrenic. They don’t know what caused him to die.

Police would not say if Valencia had any injuries prior to being hit with the Taser.”

Previous to that, the man “tried to break into … homes and jumped on rooftops before entering the group home.

“He was banging on that window while my mom was washing the dishes,” said Mariana Mendoza.

She was watching TV when a young man jumped off her neighbor’s roof and ran into her family’s backyard. She says he was frantic, speaking in both Spanish and English, saying someone was trying to kill him.

“My mom told him she was going to call the police and he said ‘thank you,’ with a rosary in his hands and he was doing this, with praying hands,” she said. “He had a beard all over his face, tattoos on his hands, a grey shirt, and a white rosary.”…He didn’t stay long in the Mendoza backyard. He ran and hopped the fence,” before entering the group home.
