How Could You? Hall of Shame-Michael Dean Redden

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Beaver, North Carolina, adoptive father Michael Dean Redden,45, “pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of first degree sexual assault against his then-9-year-old adopted daughter.

Michael Dean Redden will face 25 to 100 years for each count; the prosecution and defense will argue March 24 at his sentence hearing whether the terms should run consecutively or concurrently.

As part of his plea agreement, Redden is ineligible for home incarceration or probation. Upon his release, he must register as a sex offender for life and undergo 50 years of sex offender parole supervision.

Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Keller outlined the evidence against Redden, including explicit photos of the girl found on his phone and a Just For Kids Child Advocacy interview with the victim.

Keller noted that the victim’s mother was innocent in the matter, and had no knowledge of what was going on until she discovered the photos on Redden’s phone.

Keller described the victim as articulate and lovely, and she said the child was able to describe, in detail, at least five occasions when Redden forced her to engage in oral sex. She also described other sex acts during the interview.

Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick III asked Redden if he agreed with the evidence presented; he responded, “I didn’t ever force nothin’.”

The judge ruled that aspect was inconsequential, as the criminal elements for both the charges were satisfied. Kirkpatrick accepted both of Redden’s guilty pleas.

Redden will be sentenced March 24 at 9 a.m. He will remain at Southern Regional Jail until then. ”

“Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Monday charged a man with allegedly sexually assaulting a juvenile.

Michael Dean Redden, 44, of Beaver, allegedly sexually assaulted a juvenile family member on multiple occasions during 2015, according to Chief Detective Lt. J.C. Canaday.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Raleigh Magistrate Court, a 9-year-old girl reported to police that Redden had made her perform oral sex on him a week earlier while she was in Redden’s care.

Canaday stated that police executed a search warrant at Redden’s home and found evidence of the assault.

He was arraigned before Raleigh Magistrate Steve Massie on one charge each of first-degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian.

Massie set bond at $250,000, and Redden was at Southern Regional Jail Tuesday morning.

Canaday said more charges against Redden are expected.

According to magistrate court records, Redden was charged with a misdemeanor sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl in April 2003, after admitting to police that he’d sexually abused the girl while the two were riding an ATV in the Raleigh area.

Redden was not listed at a sex offender on the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry.”
