How Could You? Hall of Shame-Canada-Winnipeg Foster Father
This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.
From Winnipeg, Canada, a foster father “has been sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to sexually abusing three of his young foster daughters.’
““There is no way in good conscience I can deny what I have done,” the 57-year-old man told court Wednesday. “I’m just so ashamed of myself right now.”
The accused is not being named as it might identify his victims.
Court heard the man began fondling the girls when they were four or five years of age, with the abuse eventually escalating to full intercourse and oral sex.
It was unclear in court how the abuse came to the attention of police. Court heard two victims told their foster mother of the abuse and she did nothing.
In a letter provided to court, the woman said her husband was a good foster father. “He was always there to support them,” the woman wrote. “Although he made mistakes, I feel that these children are better off because of their time spent with him.”
Judge Dale Schille called the comments “incomprehensible.”
“You can never make these people whole again,” Schille told the man.
The accused has no criminal record, a fact that can’t be used to his credit, Schille said.
“For that very reason, you were put in a position of authority,” Schille said. “You were the proverbial wolf in sheep’s clothing. You were a foster parent because people trusted you to be nurturing and loving.””
