From York, Nebraska, a medication aide to Epworth Village, Jamie L. Bishop, 37, “is being charged with first degree sexual assault after a teenager came forward about having intercourse with her several times at a group home in York.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a 15-year-old male was staying at Epworth Village, a group home in York, when Jamie L. Bishop had sexual relations with the minor between January 2015 and July 2015. At the time of this report, the male is now 16 years old.
Authorities estimate that intercourse occurred 2-3 times a week from February through July.
Bishop later informed the victim she was pregnant and the child was his, the affidavit says.
All sexual relations reportedly took place in the victim’s room at Epworth Village, or outside on the facilities grounds.
Surveillance video seized by investigators from the group home placed Bishop alone several times with the victim.
According to the affidavit, an investigation into the incident was launched by the York Police Department, allowing an officer to search Bishop’s cell phone.
The officer found images of the victim on the device, along with “recent internet search history queries about the definitions of degrees of assault and sexual assault in Nebraska, consequences of lying under Miranda, and the age of consent in Nebraska,” the arrest warrant affidavit states.
The warrant also says that investigators took two buccal swabs from the victim in January 2016, with parental consent, and a swab from the baby born in December, as well.
A buccal swab was then collected from Bishop in early February.
A parental test administered by the University of Nebraska Medical Center for Paternity Testing revealed there was a 99.9 percent chance the minor was the father of Bishop’s child, according to the affidavit.
Bishop, who is a resident of Seward, NE, faces a minimum of one year and a maximum of fifty years in prison if convicted of the Class II felony, according to a complaint filed by the state of Nebraska.
10/11 has confirmed that Bishop was an employee at Epworth Village.
Bishop has an active Medication Aide license in the Nebraska. According to DHHS, A Medication Aide (MA) may assist (1) competent individuals, (2) caretakers who are parents, foster parents, family, friends or legal guardians, and (3) licensed health care professionals to administer medications. A medication aide must be on the Medication Aide Registry kept by the Licensure Unit.
Bishop, who was arrested in March, posted bail in the amount of $7,500.
Her preliminary hearing will take place on May 11 at 3 p.m. at the York County Court.
Epworth Village provides a variety of services to children and families with emotional and behavioral disorders, that includes a Juvenile Offender Residential Program.
Epworth Village receives state money from DHHS. According to their contract with the state, Epworth Village is reimbursed $116 per day, per child who get services in the group home. 1011 News also found Epworth Village is a licenses childcare provider through the state. That license was issued in 2014.”
