How Could You? Hall of Shame-Larry Drommerhausen

From Newport News, Virginia, foster parent and “owner of a Newport News business that installs security cameras”,Larry Drommerhausen, “was arrested this week on charges he used a hidden camera to make child pornography.

Larry Drommerhausen, who also has served as a foster parent for several years, waived a preliminary hearing and detention hearing Thursday in U.S. District Court in Norfolk. A federal grand jury is expected to review the matter this month.

If convicted on one count of production of child pornography, he faces a minimum of 15 years in prison.

Joshua Stueve, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and Rodolfo Cejas II, Drommerhausen’s public defender, declined to comment.

A spokeswoman for the FBI in Norfolk, however, asked for the public’s “help in identifying additional potential victims.” She directed members of the community to call 757-609-2398.

According to court documents, police came across the 53-year-old Newport News resident and semi-professional race car driver while investigating the distribution of child pornography over a peer-to-peer file sharing network. Police linked some of the child pornography to the home of Drommerhausen, the owner of Independent Systems in Newport News.

The company installs regular and hidden security cameras, according to Drommerhausen.

Federal agents searched Drommerhausen’s home on April 4 and questioned him about his Web activity. During the course of the interview, Drommerhausen confessed to viewing child pornography for a couple of years, documents said. He told the agents he particularly liked child pornography recorded by hidden cameras. He said he looked at it because he liked that it was forbidden.

While searching the house, police found a shaving cream can in Drommerhausen’s office. Further inspection revealed the bottom of the can could detach, allowing a camera to be hidden inside. There also was a pin-size hole in the can, documents said.

A search of Drommerhausen’s computer found several images and videos of child pornography that appeared to be “homemade,” documents said. Some showed a prepubescent girl in the shower and changing her clothing.

Agents identified the child as someone known to Drommerhausen, documents said.

Drommerhausen told investigators he had served as a foster parent for numerous children who had been physically or sexually abused, documents said.”
