Six Juveniles Arrested at Utah Residential Treatment Center

“Six juveniles from the Synergy Youth Treatment facility west of Smithfield were taken into custody Monday morning after they reportedly turned on the staff.

“When it was all said and done, six juveniles were arrested for aggravated assault, riot and disorderly conduct,” Cache County Sheriff Lt. Mike Peterson said. In addition, one juvenile was also charged with resisting arrest.

According to its website, Synergy Youth Treatment is a residential treatment home for troubled boys between the ages of 12 and 18. They reportedly have two homes, at least one of which is listed as a 10,000-square-foot structure, and there are no more than 16 boys to a home.

Deputies responded just after 10 a.m. to a residence on Sam Fellow Road, located in the unincorporated area between Smithfield and Newton.

They had received a report of a juvenile who was chasing a staff member with a rock and threatening her.

However, when a deputy arrived on scene, he immediately called for backup after discovering there were multiple unruly juveniles at the facility.

According to scanner traffic, one of the youths was on the roof, and another was reportedly on the train tracks, while others remained either inside the house or on the property of the home.

Deputies, assisted by Smithfield police, took the the juveniles into custody and transported them to detention, where they have all been booked on felony charges and referred to juvenile court.

Two staff members were transported via ambulance to Cache Valley Hospital for evaluations. One of them suffered minor head, face and rib injuries, while the other was having asthma problems, Peterson said.”
