How Could You? Hall of Shame-April Dils

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Beatrice, Nebraska, foster mother April Dils,34, “was sentenced Tuesday in Gage County District Court in Beatrice.”

“A Beatrice woman who authorities said should have prevented a man from having sex with her teenage foster child has been given two years behind bars.”

“She’d pleaded no contest to two counts of negligent child abuse after prosecutors lowered the charge.

Prosecutors say a friend of Dils’ boyfriend developed a sexual relationship with the 14-year-old girl when the friend stayed at Dils’ home after a night of drinking. The friend, 27-year-old Jose Salinas, in May was sentenced to 16 to 20 years in prison on his convictions for attempted sexual assault of a minor.”

“A Beatrice woman was arrested for two counts of felony child abuse on a Gage County warrant.

April Dils, 33, of … was served an arrest warrant Feb. 9.

Each charge is a class 3A felony and carries up to a five-year prison sentence and/or a $10,000 fine.

According to Gage County Court documents, the two counts of abuse occurred on or between Nov. 15-25, 2014, and involved at least one 14-year-old child.

A motion to seal the affidavit for arrest warrant filed by Gage County Attorney Roger Harris was granted in Gage County Court. Harris said the information would eventually be made pubic, but is currently being kept private to protect the identities of the children involved.

He added the Children’s Advocacy Center of Lincoln would be conducting interviews with those involved.

Dils posted bond, which was set at $7,500 with a 10 percent deposit.”
