From Dayton, Ohio, foster parent Torace D. Weaver, “a Dayton pastor accused of murder, was 2-year-old Stanley Thomas’s foster father but he and his wife had not adopted the boy, Kevin Lavoie, spokesman with Montgomery County Children Services, has confirmed.
There were no other fosters in the home, Lavoie said, noting the Weavers received their licensure to become foster parents in August 2015.
“Obviously, we have an open case on them,” he said of the Weavers. Lavoie said the case was opened in November 2015, about the time of the child’s death.
Yvonne Letne, who lives across the street from King of Glory Church on Genesee Avenue in Dayton, said she knows the family well.
“I’m really shaken up; We watched each others’ properties and stuff,” Letne said.
She said she had believed the pastor’s original story that the boy suffered injuries after falling off a table.
“I knew there was more to what they were telling us,” she said, but never expected this.
“Oh that little boy, he was so sweet,” Letne said. “He played with my grand kids.”
UPDATE @ 4:07 p.m. (Aug. 26): Montgomery County prosecutor’s confirm with this newsroom that Torace Weaver has just been taken in to custody by U.S. Marshal’s in Dayton late Friday afternoon.
FIRST REPORT
A Montgomery County grand jury has indicted Torace D. Weaver, 37, in the death of a 2-year-old boy in 2015.
Weaver, who is not in custody, was indicted on two counts of murder; involuntary manslaughter; two counts of endangering children; felonious assault; reckless homicide; and obstructing official business, according to court records.
Stanley Thomas, 2, died in November 2015.
The boy’s death was ruled a homicide in March 2016.
On Nov. 18, 2015, emergency first responders were called to King of Glory Church on Genesee Avenue in Dayton, where Weaver was pastor, on a report of a toddler not breathing. The child, 2-year-old Stanley Thomas, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Injuries included bruises, scars and a large burn, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
Weaver, also the child’s foster father, stated the child had fallen from a table at the church.
The Montgomery coroner said in March ruled the child’s cause of death was blunt force trauma and the death was a homicide.
Weaver is listed as a pastor at King of Glory Church, according to a sign on the edifice, but church members tell us he is no longer with the church.
According to records, Weaver currently works as an ortho-tech with Kettering Medical Center.
An arrest warrant has been issued. He is to be arraigned Sept. 8.”

Update 2:”Shureka Weaver, wife of the former Dayton pastor accused of murder and other felonies in the death of their 2-year-old foster son, has been indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury in connection with the case.
The grand jury empaneled for the September term returned a true bill on one count of felony endangering children (parent causing serious harm).
Shureka Weaver, 39, is to be arraigned Nov. 15.
She was not in custody Tuesday night, according to the arraignment schedule released Tuesday and a check of Montgomery County Jail online records.
Torace Weaver, in the county jail on $1 million bail, is due in court Dec. 5. He has been charged with murder and other felonies in Stanley Thomas’s death in November 2015.”
“Arraignment for Shureka Weaver, who was booked in at the Montgomery County Jail this morning, has been moved up to Thursday, according to online jail records.
Dayton police arrested Weaver, who had been sought on a warrant triggered by a grand jury indictment, about 8:44 a.m. at police headquarters in downtown Dayton. She is being detained on no bond on one count of child endangering.”

Update 3:“An Ohio pastor has been sentenced to 18 years to life in prison in the death of his foster son, and his wife received three years for endangering the child.
The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/2qABuL4 ) 38-year-old Torace Weaver and 40-year-old Shureka Weaver were sentenced Friday.
Torace Weaver was convicted last month on murder and other charges in the death of 2-year-old Stanley Thomas III. Prosecutors say Shureka Weaver failed to get Stanley treatment for a severe burn.
Torace Weave’s attorney says an appeal is planned. Shureka Weaver’s attorney didn’t return telephone messages.
Torace Weaver told police Stanley slipped off a table and hit his head while playing “Superman” at a church in November 2015.
A coroner said Stanley died of a catastrophic skull fracture and had numerous blunt force injuries and disfiguring burns.”
