How Could You? Hall of Shame-Matthew Hollifield case

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Columbia, South Carolina, “James and Cristy Hollifield and their four-year-old son were moving from Florida to North Carolina when their car broke down in Georgia. After spending more than $2,000.00 in repairs, their car broke down again in Columbia, South Carolina. Now without money, the Columbia Police Department assisted with food and a place to stay. The Hollifields reluctantly surrendered their child [Matthew] to DSS because as a family, they could not find a place to stay.

The child was transferred to a foster home in St. George, South Carolina. 18 hours later, DSS notified the Hollifields that there[sic] child was struck by a car Image result for rolleyes smileyand was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina, according to the St. George Police Department. DSS drove the Hollifieds [sic] to MUSC and only allowed the parents a few minutes with their child and are now being denied access to their son now that they have transportation to continue onto North Carolina.

“Today, the child was released but DSS is not allowing the Hollifields to take their son onto North Carolina. DSS is now denying them any updates on additional medical treatment their son will require and will not share with them any future doctor appointments I’m asking Governor McMaster to allow these parents to take their child and care for him as they have done for the past four years. The Hollifields did everything asked of them and now they are denied access to their son and it’s just wrong,” said Aylor.

  1. Jesus wept! Poor families shouldn’t have to give up their children just to get public assistance! This is cruel, heartless, and puts children at known risk of harm.

The only situation in which children should be taken from their parents is abuse. Period!
