How Could You? Hall of Shame-Alessandra Terin Bishop

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Hoover, Alabama, foster mother Alessandra Terin Bishop,27,”was arrested today and charged with aggravated child abuse. It’s a heartbreaking case that has many parents in shock.”

“A helpless baby girl is now recovering from eleven bone fractures, and Hoover Police believe she was abused by her foster mother: 27-year-old Alessandra Terin Bishop.”

“The love you have for your child is endless. As a mom you would do anything for your child.”

“Your love for your child, there’s nothing more fierce.”

“They’re so precious and so fragile and… helpless.”

These three mothers, Sandy Evers, Kimberly Wilder, and Mary Lowery, say their children are their lives.

“I couldn’t imagine anybody would do something like that to a baby,” says Lowery.

She was baffled to hear the extensive injuries a infant endured by her foster mother. Hoover police say both the baby’s arms and legs were broken. Neighbors are still dumbfounded such abuse could have been going on right under their noses.

Sisters-in-law, Sandy Evers and Kimberly Wilder, are both educators and advocates for child safety.

“We care about a child,” says Evers, Assistant Principal at Oak Mountain High School. “And we want to know they’re well taken care of at home and at school.”

“You might not see it [the abuse],” says Wilder, a teacher at Mountain Brook Middle School. “And you can’t spot it from the outside or what a child looks like.”

School personnel are mandated by law to report suspicions of abuse. But, a five-week old foster child has less public exposure.

“That’s a tough line right there. I say if you see something say something,” says Evers.

It’s crucial for anyone in contact with such children to be watchful and, as Evers suggests, follow your gut.

“Report it to a police officer, person in charge, administrator at a school, and they can take it from there and investigate.”

Bishop’s bond is set at $30,000 dollars. Anyone with any information on this case or any situation of abuse is encouraged to contact his/her local police department.”
