How Could You? Hall of Shame-Hannah Seekins UPDATED
This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.
From Abilene, Texas, foster mother Hannah Seekins, 31, “was taken into custody Thursday for Injury to a Child and was released from jail after posting a $10,000 bond” after a “a 2-year-old [foster child] was hospitalized with hemorrhaging and a spinal injury. ”
“Court documents state Seekins told police she called 9-1-1 in April of 2017 when her foster child went limp and his eyes rolled to the side after she found him lying on the floor.
Seekins said the child was playing in the room next to her when she heard a thump followed by a whine, according to the documents. She told detectives the child must have fallen from a bench.
The child was air-lifted to a Lubbock hospital where the documents state a doctor said the child’s injuries, which included retinal hemorrhage, ligament injury to the cervical spine, subdural hemorrhaging along the spinal cord, and a couple fractures of the 4th thoracic vertebra, posed a “substantial risk of death” and were “very concerning for physical abuse”.
The doctor believed the injuries were not consistent with Seekins’ story of a short fall, according to the documents.”

REFORM Puzzle Piece
Update:“A Taylor County grand jury on Thursday indicted an Abilene woman suspected of child abuse.
Hannah Seekins, 31, was indicted on a count of first-degree felony injury to a child, according to court and Taylor County Jail records.
According to court documents, Seekins was in her home in the 1900 block of Marshall Street on April 21, 2017, with her two children and a 2-year-old foster child.
She said the foster child was playing in an adjacent room, the documents said, when she heard a thump followed by a whine.
When she arrived at the foster child, he was lying on the floor, the documents said. She then picked the child up and felt his body go limp and saw his eyes roll off to the side.
She went with the child to a neighbor’s house and called 911, the documents said, and the child was taken to a local hospital before being flown to Lubbock for further care.
In an investigation following up, Seekins told police the child fell from a bench. Police measured the height of the bench to be 21 inches.
Medical personnel treating the child said injuries present were retinal hemorrhages and spinal injuries, including a compression fracture of the fourth thoracic vertebra, which presented a substantial risk of death, the documents said.
A second physician reviewed the case and said the injuries were not consistent with a fall from 21 inches, the documents said.
Seekins was booked into Taylor County Jail on Jan. 25 and released the same day on $10,000 bond, according to jail records.”
