St George police, the Dog Unit and Polair began a search after the child ran from a “carer’s facility” on Oatley Parade about 7.15pm on Sunday.

Shortly before 9.30pm, it was confirmed the child’s body had been found at the nearby train station.

Earlier, police said the boy was last seen running near the station, at Mulga Parade and Oatley Avenue.

“Police have serious concerns for the child’s welfare as he has a medical condition, is non-verbal and is unlikely to respond,” a police spokesman said at that time.

Later, the police spokesman said an investigation was under way into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

“Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact St George Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” he said.

“A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.””
