How Could You? Hall of Shame-Miguel Bravo Mejia

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Yakima, Washington,”Police have arrested a 40-year-old man who they believe may have been tied to the recent disappearance of a 16-year-old girl from a group home.

Miguel Bravo Mejia was arrested Friday in the 600 block of S. Fifth Ave., where police spotted him exiting a car. The girl, who was reported missing Aug. 7, was found unharmed in the car, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force.

The task force had identified Mejia as a person of interest in the girl’s disappearance and conducted surveillance of an area they believed he was living; Mejia was spotted exiting his car on Friday and police moved in on him. He fled on foot, jumping fences, but was caught a short distance away, the release said.

Mejia has nine outstanding warrants for his arrest, the release said.

The release didn’t describe the charges behind Mejia’s warrants nor did it say what possible charges he faces in the girl’s disappearance. A public information officer with the Marshals Office couldn’t be reached for comment Sunday.

Mejia was booked into the Yakima County jail, the release said. He wasn’t listed on the jail’s online roster Sunday afternoon.”
