How Could You? Hall of Shame-Derrick Brady

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Muncie, Indiana, “Muncie foster parent [Derrick Brady] is accused of slapping a four-year-old girl in the face, and then trying to hide his actions from authorities.”

He “was arrested Thursday on preliminary counts of domestic battery and neglect of a dependent.

According to Delaware County sheriff’s deputies, Brady on Aug. 14 called an Indiana Department of Child Services hotline and reported a four-year-old girl in his care had been injured when she “ran into the back” of a two-year-old foster child.

A DCS official took the children to Henry County Hospital to be examined. A physician later shown photographs of the older child’s face advised her injury “was inflicted and not consistent” with running into the younger child.

In an interview with authorities, the four-year-old girl’s father reported his child told him Brady had slapped her in the face.

Interviewed Thursday by William Curtis, a sheriff’s investigator, Brady allegedly admitted he had slapped the girl in the face “after he placed her in ‘timeout’ because she kicked (him) in the groin.””
