This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.
From Bartleville, Oklahoma, “Prosecutors in Washington County have charged a woman with first-degree murder, saying she inflicted an infant with fatal injuries.
Tracy Dawn Nelson, 43, is accused of injuring a 7-week-old baby left in her care, court records show.
Nelson’s spouse had left the infant with Nelson around June 15 [2017] while running errands, Bartlesville Police Investigator Daniel Elkins states in an affidavit. During that time, the baby sustained “blunt force trauma to the head,” states the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which classified the death as a homicide.
The trauma reportedly caused a brain bleed, brain swelling and optic nerve damage. Investigators state in the affidavit that the swelling “leaked down the Victim’s spinal cord.”
Nelson’s spouse returned from errands that day and found the child unresponsive, authorities said. She administered CPR.
Nelson denied causing any injuries.
Nelson “stated that the victim was crying excessively and that she laid the Victim down with a bottle and later found the Victim unresponsive,” Elkins states in the affidavit.
Nelson reportedly had little tolerance for children crying. Her spouse told investigators that Nelson had shoved socks in children’s mouths to muffle them and would pinch their throats “to make kids stop crying,” the affidavit states.
Nelson’s spouse reportedly told investigators that Nelson was “known to be aggressive and short tempered with children.” Nelson allegedly threw children to her spouse out of frustration.
Bartlesville police arrested Nelson during the New Year’s Eve weekend after the murder charge was filed Friday. She is being held in Washington County jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
Her initial court appearance has not yet been scheduled, according to online records.
In a separate case filed in July, prosecutors allege that Nelson broke a 4-mouth-old baby’s arm in March 2015 by grabbing and twisting it, according to court documents.
Nelson is charged with child abuse in that case. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 30.”
