15-Year-Old Group Home Teen Arrested for Assaulting Employee
“A 15-year-old is behind bars after an incident at the 180-Degrees Von Wald Group Home in Rochester.
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office was called to the home just before 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 6. Employees at the home said the teen got upset when he was being sent to his room after not participating in “rec time”.
The teenager allegedly grabbed a butter knife from the kitchen, held it over his head, made threatening statements, and then threw it at the head of a 23-year-old woman who works at the home and hit her.
The teen then allegedly grabbed more butter knives and began throwing them at workers. The 23-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man who also works there physically tried to restrain the teenager.
According to Olmsted County Sheriff’s Captain Scott Behrns, when a deputy got there and tried to arrest the teenager, the teen’s hand got free and he hit the deputy.
The teenager then allegedly bit down hard on the female employee’s arm and wouldn’t let go. The deputy apparently had to grab the teen’s hair to pull the teen off the woman and get him to let go. The woman’s skin was broken from the bite. Capt. Behrns said pulling the hair/head back is the way to get someone to stop biting someone.
The teenager was eventually arrested. He was first taken to the hospital and after getting cleared, was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
The 15-year-old is facing three counts of felony assault, and a 2nd-degree assault related to the knives. He’s also facing terroristic threats, obstructing justice, and interfering with a 911 call.
Capt. Behrns said the teenager has a history of assaultive behavior. ”
