How Could You? Hall of Shame-CPS worker Lauren Michelle Myres
This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.
From Fort Walton Beach, Florida, social worker Lauren Michelle Myres,26, “has been sentenced to six years in prison for having sex with her 17-year-old adopted son.
Lauren Michelle Myres, of Fort Walton Beach, was arrested earlier this year and admitted to having sex with the victim ‘seven to eight times’ between March 26 and May 30, according to court filings.
Myres had been assigned to the boy’s case while she was working at the Family First Network. She decided to foster him herself before ultimately petitioning to adopt him.
Court documents indicate that Myres and the victim, who has not been named because he is a minor, began having sex after the adoption was finalized.
Police received an anonymous tip about the sexual relationship on May 31.
When questioned by investigators, Myres ‘stated she knew it was wrong and allowed the sexual relationship to continue’, according to an arrest report.
‘The defendant also told the victim that what they were doing was illegal and the defendant was aware the victim was 17 years old,’ the report said.
The boy allegedly told investigators that he did not believe the relationship was wrong because ‘he was not being raped and was about to be 18′.
Speaking during Myres’ sentencing hearing on Thursday, Florida State Attorney Bill Bishop said: ‘I can’t say I’ve ever seen a case like this where an adoption occurred and sex occurred shortly thereafter.
‘There have been cases of older women having sex with young boys across the country, but this is the first I’ve ever seen.’
Myres entered a no contest plea to a charge of sexually battering a minor on December 11.
As a result of her conviction she will be registered as a sex offender and will spend the next six years in prison.
Upon her release, Myres will be put on sex offender probation for four years and have to complete sex offender counseling. She will also be prohibited from having contact with the victim or any minors.
Myres had been working at Family First Network for about two-and-a-half years after having graduated with a degree in criminal justice from the University of West Florida in 2015.
The 26-year-old was fired from the family service center immediately after officials learned of her arrest.
Court filings indicate that Myres had been married at the time that her affair with the minor began. She and her husband filed to dissolve their marriage in April and had been divorced for nine days prior to her arrest. ”
