DOS: Temporary Cessation of Nightlight Christian Adoptions in Ukraine

From here:”On January 15, 2019, the Intercountry Adoption Accreditation and Maintenance Entity (IAAME) required Nightlight Christian Adoptions (Nightlight) to temporarily cease providing adoption services in Ukraine. IAAME determined that it was necessary to take this action due to Nightlight’s failure to maintain substantial compliance with relevant accreditation standards. Nightlight’s adoption programs in other countries are not impacted by this action.

During this cessation, Nightlight must cease to provide all adoption services in connection with intercountry adoption cases in Ukraine. At this time, Nightlight is not required to transfer their cases to another provider.[???] However, Nightlight will be unable to act as a primary provider in Ukraine for any services that need to be completed during the cessation. If you have an open case with Nightlight in Ukraine, please contact them directly to find out how the cessation will affect your case. You may also wish to review the information on U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ website at If Your Adoption Service Provider is no Longer Accredited or Approved.

Post-adoption reporting takes place after an adoption has been finalized and is not an adoption service as defined by U.S. regulations governing intercountry adoption. Therefore, adoptive parents who wish to continue working with Nightlight on post-adoption reporting for Ukraine may do so.

Federal regulations authorize designated accrediting entities to review complaints and take action when it determines regulatory standards have been violated. The Department of State facilitates communication to the public about the outcome of accrediting entity determinations. Please direct any questions about this announcement to IAAME at www.iaame.net. ”
