How Could You? Hall of Shame-Robert Akens

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Wasilla, Alaska, “Alaska State Troopers have arrested a 66-year-old man, after receiving reports last year that he had sexually abused foster children.

Troopers’ Child Abuse Investigation Unit first received an Aug. 3 report that Robert Akens was having inappropriate conduct with foster children in his care, according to an online dispatch.

“Multiple children were interviewed at The Children’s Place, in Wasilla, and sexual abuse was disclosed,” troopers wrote.

An indictment against Akens, filed Friday in Palmer Superior Court, charges him with one first-degree and two second-degree counts of sexual abuse of a minor. Troopers said Akens was arrested Tuesday.

Court records specify dates for the alleged abuse, involving one or more victims under the age of 13, spanning from February to July 2018. All three counts are indicated to be crimes of domestic violence.

Akens was initially held at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on a total of $100,000 bail, with monitoring by the state Pretrial Enforcement Division required if he is released.”
