From Noida, India, “a troubling turn of events has come to light from the national capital region where Gautam Budh Nagar police arrested a Gurugram-based man for allegedly raping the 16-year-old daughter of his live-in partner. An official familiar with the matter said that the minor girl was found roaming on the streets of Noida earlier this year.

Once rescued, the girl was taken to the Sector 39 police station after which law enforcement personnel transferred her custody to a woman’s shelter home. She gathered to narrate her ordeal during a counselling session at the shelter home. Police officials registered a case based on her statement which led to the arrest of the man who sexually abused her for almost two months.

The minor told counsellers that she hails from Assam and was placed with foster parents after her parents’ demise about three years ago. Her foster family moved to Kathmandu soon after she started living with them but they moved back to Gurugram, almost two years ago. However, her foster mother started living with another man after separating from her foster father owing to some reasons.

In her complaint, the minor girl stated that her foster mother’s live-in partner sexually abused her for nearly two months after which she fled to Noida. She was living with another family in Noida for some time before she started feeling ‘unsafe’ and decided to leave from there also.

Station house officer (SHO), sector 39 police station, Uday Pratap told Hindustan Times that a case has been registered against the accused under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 3 and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He also said that the minor girl is doing well at the shelter home.”
