On December 11, 2019, the Republic of the Congo deposited its instrument of accession to the Hague Convention on the Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption Convention (Hague Adoption Convention). The Convention will enter into force for the Republic of the Congo on April 1, 2020. The Department is determining if the United States may process Convention adoptions with Republic of Congo pursuant to U.S. law.

The Republic of the Congo is the 102nd country to become party to the Hague Adoption Convention, an international agreement that establishes safeguards to protect the best interests of children and to provide greater security, predictability, and transparency for all involved in an intercountry adoption.
