Lawsuit: Glen Mills Schools
“It’s a story our Project PA: Children in Crisis team first reported last April, after the state revoked the school’s 14 licenses and removed all of its students.
The allegations and cover-ups span decades.
As part of the new lawsuits filed this week, former students say they were sexually and physically abused by staff, and threatened not to report it to authorities.
The lawsuits allege students were sexually assaulted, raped, beaten and even received death threats for reporting the incidents to authorities.
Lawyers claim the school covered up the abuse, in an effort to prevent funding from being jeopardized.
“I was sexually abused multiple times; physically abused multiple times; verbal abused. Every day at Glen Mills was a horror to me. Every day,” said Laboy Wiggins, a former student.
“Glen Mills took from me the positive light I had as a teenager, and now all that’s left is darkness,” said Tawfeeq Abdul-Lateef, another former student.
“These allegations we learned of today can only be described as heartbreaking,” Glen Mills spokesperson Jeff Jubelirer told our CBS affiliate, KYW-TV, in Philadelphia. “Our attorneys are now evaluating the lawsuits. In the meantime, Glen Mills Schools continues to cooperate with all governmental authorities.”
The firm representing the men in these latest lawsuits is also representing more than 300 men who also claim they were sexually abused.
13 lawsuits have been filed so far. Lawyers intend to file the rest in the near future.”
