Wednesday Weirdness
Welcome to Wednesday Weirdness, a recurring theme where we post something truly weird and wacky in adoption or child welfare.
“A mother bizarrely admitted to waking up her ‘very kissable’ 21-year-old daughter every morning by ‘licking her like a puppy’ in sMothered!
Tonight’s episode of TLC’s sMothered – which chronicles the lives of six mother-daughter duos who share an unusually close bond – focuses on 68-year-old Marcia Galan and her 21-year-old daughter and ‘best friend’ Alena, who do everything together.
Giving an idea of how close their relationship is, Marcia, who lives in upstate New York, confesses that the duo share a less than ordinary morning routine.
‘My relationship with her is unique,’ she explains. ‘In the mornings I walk into her room and I just lick her all up.
‘She kept pestering me for a puppy and I couldn’t get her a puppy, so I turned into the doggy. Alena tastes pretty good and all sweet, I just want to eat her all up.’
For Alena, who was born in Siberia, Russia, and then adopted by Marcia as a toddler, reveals her mother’s puppy antics make her feel closer to her.
‘I love it when my Mamma licks me, it kind of makes me feel closer to her because we’re doing something funny and out of the ordinary,’ she says, ‘It’s a thing we do every single day.’
But the unusual morning routine doesn’t stop there. Once she’s finally out of bed, Alena then playfully chases her mother around the house.
‘When Alena was very little she didn’t have much stamina, so I would say “you can’t get me, you can’t get me.”‘
Alena suffers from an enzyme deficiency, and the chasing started as a way of increasing her stamina and encouraging growth when she was a child. But the routine has stuck, and the pair continue to chase each other regularly.
‘It was really a good thing to help her grow and it just continued,’ Marcia says.
Once Alena eventually catches her mother, it’s her turn to play puppy.
‘When I catch my Mamma I do all my kissy-poos and I kiss her all up,’ she enthuses. ‘She’s very kissable!’
Marcia acknowledges that her relationship with her daughter may seem odd to some people.
‘Some people don’t agree or they wonder what is wrong with her,’ she adds.
But Marcia’s determined to hold a tight bond with her daughter.
‘I love the idea as she’s growing up of being able to do all those silly things,’ she explains.”
