DNA Links Father to Son

“The father, Richard McCleary, has been searching for his son after the mother gave him up for adoption.

“I held him twice, and it’s been a hole in my heart for 57 years,” said Richard.

He took a DNA test online. The online test found a match that was close enough to be his son. His son Jim, who had been looking for his biological father, found the match in the database. Anxious at the possibility, he and his wife reached out to Richard.

On Friday, April 23, they came face to face for the first time since 1963, when Jim was just an infant. Tears, cheers and hugs filled the airport as the two embraced.

Jim and his wife and son will spend a week in Myrtle Beach visiting Richard.

Come to find out, before Richard moved to South Carolina, they lived just 30 minutes away from each other.”
