“Niger accedes to the 1993 Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption
On May 24, 2021, Niger deposited its instrument of accession to the Convention on the Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption (Hague Adoption Convention). The Convention will enter into force for Niger on September 1, 2021. The Department is determining if the United States may process Convention adoptions with Niger pursuant to U.S. law.
Niger is the 104th nation to become party to the Hague Adoption Convention, an international agreement that establishes safeguards with the goal of protecting the best interests of the child and of providing greater security, predictability, and transparency for all those involved in an intercountry adoption.
